Privacy Policy

8kicks is a free social prediction game for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do (and don't do) with it.

What we collect

• Account info— email address and display name, either entered directly or received from an OAuth provider (Google, Facebook). We don't receive or store your OAuth password.
• Prediction data — the score predictions you make, group memberships, leaderboard positions, and related game activity.
• Anonymous sessions — if you join a group as a guest, we create an anonymous session. This gets upgraded to a real account when you sign up. Anonymous session data is minimal (a random ID and your picks).
• Device info for push notifications— if you opt in to push notifications, we store the subscription endpoint and keys needed to send you notifications. We don't collect device fingerprints.
• Analytics events— we use Amplitude to understand how people use the app (pages visited, features used, general engagement). These events are associated with your user ID but don't include personal information beyond what's listed above.

Authentication

You can sign in with an email magic link, Google, or Facebook. When you use an OAuth provider, we receive your email address and display name from that provider. We don't request access to your contacts, photos, posts, or anything else. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth.

How we use your data

• Running the game: storing picks, calculating leaderboards, managing groups.
• Sending push notifications you opted into (match reminders, results).
• Analytics to understand usage patterns and improve the product.
• Communicating with you about your account if needed.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
• We don't run ads.
• We don't share your personal information with third parties beyond the infrastructure providers that make the app work (listed below).

Sub-processors

Your data is processed by the following services, each under their own privacy policies:

• Supabase — database and authentication (privacy policy)
• Cloudflare — hosting and CDN (privacy policy)
• Amplitude — product analytics (privacy policy)
• Ably — realtime data delivery (privacy policy)

Cookies

We use cookies strictly for session management (Supabase auth tokens). No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no cookie banners needed.

Anonymous sessions

If you use the app as a guest, we create an anonymous session tied to a random ID. Your predictions are stored under this ID. If you later create an account, your anonymous data is merged into your account. Anonymous session data that is not upgraded to a real account is automatically deleted after 90 days.

Data retention & deletion

Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account from the Me tab in any group. This will permanently remove your account, predictions, and group memberships within 30 days. For immediate deletion, contact privacy@8kicks.com.

Children

8kicks is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you're in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Email us at privacy@8kicks.com and we'll handle it.

California residents (CCPA)

We don't sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what data we collect and to request deletion. Same email: privacy@8kicks.com.

Future monetization

We may introduce optional paid features, partnerships, or advertising in the future. If we do, we'll update this policy and notify you via the app before any changes take effect. We will never sell your personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We'll notify you via the app for material changes that affect how your data is used.
